The Elephant Man is a timeless, moving, and utterly astounding play that won a Tony award and every other major achievement for Best Play of 1979 (later starring John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins, in the 1980 film version that received eight Oscar nominations). Here is the true story of a remarkable man whose body, though hideously deformed, contains a remarkably sensitive, funny and intelligent being. 'Discovered' by a brilliant young doctor, Frederick Treves (played by Carl Galante), John Merrick (actor Patrick Byers) becomes the toast of society, patronized by lords, ladies, clergymen and celebrities who admired his gentleness, intelligence and deep faith. But Treves' and Merrick's belief that Merrick can become a man like any other is a dream never to be realized. Stunningly theatrical, this modern classic, laced with humor and pathos, explores the nature of courage, heroism, morality, and inner beauty. The production will be held in the EmilyAnn's newly renovated studio theatre which offers an intimate 35-seat setting. Directed by Bridget Farias and featuring favorite Wimberley and Austin actors Carl Galante, Patrick Byers, Dana Naughton, Ed Boyle, D.Heath Thompson, Alex Deleon, Laura Ray, Ariana Kahn, Jessica Sharpe, Derek Vandi, Kevin Vela, and Cyrus Mallison.

Special Message from Ann Rolling

With the festive bustle of Trail of Lights behind us, January has traditionally been a quiet month at the EmilyAnn. But 2010 is bringing exciting new changes. This year, we are delighted to present The Elephant Man which opens on Friday. We've been busy preparing our show box with new seating to create an intimate setting which will show off the amazing acting in this sensitive, thought-provoking play. So, gather up your friends, book group buddies, and guests and come out to the EmilyAnn for a wonderful evening. See you at the shows!

Ann

The EmilyAnn Receives Grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts

The EmilyAnn is proud to announce that in December, we received a $15,500 grant through the ArtsCreate program of the Texas Commission on the Arts. This grant must be matched dollar for dollar by the EmilyAnn and will help support our overall operations. The Commission supports a wide variety of arts activities throughout the state. We greatly appreciate TCA's support of our efforts.
